Electronic grade beryllium/beryllium oxide composite material has thermal conductivity and high modulus
Wonder provides a series of patented beryllium (Be) and beryllium oxide (BeO) metal matrix composites (MMCs), which are made into electronic grades and classified as electronic materials. These Be/BeO MMCs are ideal for aerospace, microelectronics and semiconductor applications that require low-density materials, good thermal conductivity, and high modulus. These features enable design engineers to create substrates that can be designed to be smaller and thinner, thereby helping to make designs smaller or lighter.
The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of electronic materials is also lower than that of beryllium, which allows higher energy components to be used on the components. Electronic materials are powder-based and are created by mixing Be and BeO into a homogeneous mixture. The preparation method of beryllium-based MMC is to perform impact grinding first, and then perform hot isostatic pressing to form cut pieces to meet customer needs. They have strip and pulp saw cutting cards.
High modulus and thermal advantages of electronic materials
Be and BeO composite materials have excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio and thermal cycle reliability in a wide temperature range. The high modulus of elasticity helps to absorb vibration, and when combined with a low CTE, it can reduce the fatigue failure of connected modules and wire bonding materials.
The thermal expansion of electronic materials can be adjusted as needed to match the thermal expansion of other materials, such as silicon, gallium arsenide and various ceramics, thus providing design flexibility for challenging and unique applications.
Electronic materials market and application
These low weight, high modulus MMCs are ideal solutions for a variety of markets and applications, including:
- Microelectronics radiator and cooling plate
